Figures relatively stagnant in Skerries

CRIME levels have jumped at Skerries over the past eight years although in the four-year period between 2007 and 2011, they have remained fairly stagnant at the 400 figure mark.

In 2011, there were 407 crimes recorded, up from 283 in 2003 but similar to the figures of 2007 and 2011 when 408 and 406 offences were recorded by Gardai there, according to the data. Like every other garda station in the region, thefts were the biggest headache for gardai with 142 offences of that nature recorded last year, up from 75 in 2003. Some 77 criminal damage offences were recorded in 2011, up from 66 in 2003 but down from a whopping 96 in 2010. Public order offences accounted for 56 offences, up from 40 in 2003 but once again down on the 2010 figure of 65. Drug-related crime jumped from seven in 2003 to 19 in 2011, while burglary offences dropped from 46 in 2003 to 41 last year. The category of assaults, harassment and attempts/threats to murder remained stagnant at 32 in 2003 and 2011. The figure had dropped in 2010 to 24 but jumped once again by eight last year.
