THE FAMILY of a Swords man who passed away earlier this year have made a generous donation to Fingal County Libraries.

Well-known around the Fingal town, Bill Mahony was an avid fan of LE Modesitt's science fiction books and went to great lengths to collect 48 of the author's works. They will be available from early December. And last week two of his seven children, daughters Antoinette Derham and Mandy McCall, formally handed over the collection to the library service. Bill, who worked as a proof reader for the Irish Independent and Evening Herald for many years, then began delivering Chinese food for a local takeway for about 15 years. He retired and moved to Drogheda in 2006 but is still fondly remembered around Swords.
