IF EVERYTHING proceeds as planned then the doors of the primary care centre in Balbriggan could be flung open as early as the summer of 2014, according to the developer of the project.
If the planning process is successfully negotiated without major delays, AJ Noonan of Rhonellen Developments says the Balbriggan centre could open in 18 months from now. Speaking exclusively to the Fingal Independent on the project after submitting a planning application to Fingal County Council, Mr. Noonan said the primary care centre development came with a price tag of approximately €10 million. He said he looked forward to breaking ground on the project and said his company had been involved in the primary care sector for some time now and was about to progress it's first primary care centre building in Swinford in County Mayo. A Mayo man himself, Mr Noonan dismissed reports in the national media that he was a 'Fine Gael supporter'. He said that he had made a 'personal donation' of €1,000 to a fellow Mayo native, Lucinda Creighton. He said he was asked by some fellow Mayo people to contribute and buy a dinner at a table and said he agreed 'as a personal donation from a fellow county person as opposed to a political donation'. 'I am not a Fine Gael supporter and have never received anything from any political party,' he said. Mr. Noonan said he was 'disappointed' by the way the Balbriggan primary care project had been covered in the national media and said the controversy over the sites addition to a list of priority locations for primary care centres by Minister James Reilly was a 'storm in a tea cup'. He said he had found himself 'dragged into a political storm' but he said he acknowledged the whole controversy surrounding the project in recent weeks 'as a storm in a tea cup and nothing more than that'. Mr. Noonan's company, Rhonellen Developments Ltd. said that its proposed primary care centre in Balbriggan answered a real need in a growing town and that need was acknowledged by the HSE in a letter of support for the project.
