DRUG-related offences have jumped substantially in the Malahide Garda District in 2011, increasing from just 13 in 2003 to 68 last year, according to the data now available.
However, theft amounts for the highest proportion of the 1,289 offences recorded in Malahide last year with some 500 offences recorded by gardai. The figure is marginally up on the 2003 figure of 441 but dramatically up on the 2010 figure of 352. Again burglary and criminal damage-related offences showed large numbers, with public order following closely behind.
In 2011, there were 219 criminal damage offences recorded, which was down on the 2003 and 2010 figures of 231. Burglary offences increased slightly during that period, rising from 168 in 2003 to 176. However, it was down on the 2010 figure of 187. Public order offences rose slightly from 164 to 170 between 2003 and 2011, however in 2007 there was a massive 323 incidents recorded, according to the figures. The category of assaults, harassment and attempts/threats to murder has also risen jumping from 33 offences in 2003 to 70 last year, according to the figures.
