AN encouraging sign that the building industry is getting back on its feet in Fingal has emerged in a Malahide development that has started building again.

The Waterside development on the Swords to Malahide road was stopped in its tracks when the recession hit but, after years of practically no building activity on the site, other than the maintenance of the existing homes, construction of new homes in the development has recommenced.

Fingal County Council has confirmed that work has started at Waterside again in a report to the Malahide/Howth Area Committee.

Cllr. Eoghan O'Brien (FF) had a motion down, asking that the council take action to 'improve the appearance of the large site at the front of Waterside estate, Malahide, where the hoarding has come down'.

In response, the council issued a report stating: 'The developer has recommenced building at this location.

'There is new green mesh fencing being erected at present in order to improve upon the aesthetics and encourage commercial activity.

'These works should be completed towards the end of March 2014, and will improve an enhance the appearance of this development.'

Cllr. O'Brien said it was 'good to see working actually starting again' on the estate and said the council needed to keep an eye on the appearance of the estate as the work goes on.
