Community to forefront at local awards
COMMUNITY WAS very much to the forefront at the annual Balbriggan Town Council awards night last week where local people were honoured and recognised for their hardwork and endeavour over the past 12 months.
Held at the Bracken Court Hotel, cathaoirleach Cllr Larry Dunne and other members of the Town Council presented a host of awards to individuals and groups for their important input into community life in Balbriggan. The Stephen Scarff Perpetual Award which recognises outstanding service in the community was awarded to Martine O'Brien, while the Town Councillors Special Award was awarded to 34th & 161st Unit Balbriggan Scouts for Jamóige 2012 - Gullivers Travels event which was held in Ardgillan Castle earlier in the year.
The Cathaoirleach's Award was awarded to Balbriggan ICA guild, while the Special Sport recognition awards went to Brendan Shortt for his commitment to soccer, Kieran O'Neill, Keith Fanning for his commitment to kick boxing and kung fun and Balbriggan Under 15 Golf Team for their achievements in the Leinster championships and Hyde Park first team for their dedication to the sport of soccer. The Community Recognition awards were presented to Eoghan O'Ceallachain and Charlie Monaghan for their dedication to voluntary work and Remember Us Group for their work with young people and adults with special needs. Balbriggan Autumn Jazz Collective were also highlighted in recognition of their successful Jazz Festival event in the town.
