Armed thieves stole phones from frightened teenagers

YOUNG people carrying mobile phones in Swords have been warned to be on the lookout for an incredibly elaborate scam that targeted two teenage victims last week.

Two 13-year-old boys were walking on Ormonde Avenue in Swords Manor between the hours of 8pm and 8.30pm, last Saturday, December 8 when they noticed a male apparently putting water into the radiator of a black BMW. A female passenger was also visible in the car but when the boys were alongside the vehicle, three males got out of the car with their face and heads covered with scarves and hoods. The men were armed with ' small batons' and one with a small knife. They approached the two young victims and demanded their mobile phones. Reaching into the pockets of the two frightened teenagers, and stole an iPhone from one and a Samsung Galaxy from the other. With Christmas approaching and smart phones high on the wish list of many people, thieves are increasing targetting these prized items. Gardaí in Swords have cautioned against using mobile phones in public, particularly if they are one of the more sought after brands.
