DUBLIN AIRPORT apprentice, Ronan Guerin, has been honoured for his achievement in winning a prestigious FAS national skills award.

Ronan, who has worked as a mechanical apprentice in the DAA maintenance department for the past four years, recently won first place in the Polymechanic Automation category in the FAS national skills competition. Senior personnel in the DAA Asset Care division joined Ronan's colleagues at a special event at the airport to mark the victory of the 21-year-old from River Valley, Swords.

The event was hosted by DAA Engineering Support Manager Maurice Grace who described it as a ' very special occasion'. Ronan told the gathering he got a job in a bike shop at the age of 12 and was given a motorbike to rebuild at 15. He spoke of his love for mechanical work. 'I'm in the reserve army and passed out as a corporal two weeks ago. My plan is to get into the defence forces engineer corps,' he said.
