Almost 50 social housing units will soon begin construction in Balbriggan, according to a new time-line issued by Fingal County Council for two separate projects in the town, including 25 'rapid build' homes in Pinewood that have proven difficult to deliver.

The proposed 25-unit development of so-called 'rapid build' homes at Pinewood had a long and difficult birth after the project was reduced from an initial 40 homes to 25 after a number of local objections.

Answering a question from Cllr Malachy Quinn (SF) on the controversial project, which has proven to be anything but 'rapid', the council revealed 'Stage 2 Approval' for the project is in place along with €4.3 million in funding and a contractor is finally expected to be appointed this month.

Separately, the council said 'Stage 4 Approval' for two dozen traditionally-built social homes in the Castleland area of Balbriggan and a similar €4,3 million in funding, is in place.

This project is likely to see will work start on site, this month.
