Wardens urged to tackle illegal parking

CALLS have been made to have illegal parking on the Harbour Road in Skerries addressed to prevent injury to pedestrians.
The issue was raised by Fine Gael councillor JP Browne at an area committee meeting who called for traffic wardens to address the issue.
In response, he was informed that discussions have taken place in relation to this matter with the company that carries out the traffic warden service on behalf of the council.
'The company has confirmed that parking regulations in relation to illegally parked vehicles are routinely enforced on the roads mentioned in the question,' a report from chief executive Paul Reid said.
'The traffic wardens have the authority to take action only in instances where a vehicle is illegally parked during the hours of operation of the service (Monday – Saturday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.). Outside of these times, the Gardaí have sole enforcement powers.'
Cllr Browne was informed that the matter would be raised at the forthcoming Skerries Liaison Committee meeting and with the gardaí.
