Up to 225 pupils took to the stage with their respective classes to perform a selection of tunes including Christmas tunes for the evening's recital.

According to St Colmcille's GNS principal, Bernadette Murtagh, the evening went fantastic.

'This is the third year of the violin recital and it went fantastically,' Ms Murtagh told the Fingal Independent.

'We hold the violin recital at Christmas time and also again in June when the school year comes to an end.'

Three years ago the school introduced violin lessons as part of its Music Programme and now all the pupils from Third to Sixth class take violin lessons with music teacher Ms Isabelle Fahy for half an hour each week.

Ms Fahy is also introducing an orchestra to the pupils for those who are showing an interest in learning other instruments.

And in January Ms Fahy will be introducing cello and violin classes for parents of pupils who are interested in taking up the instruments.
