Traffic survey on Strand Road

FINGAL County Council is to carry out a traffic survey on the Strand Road in Portmarnock as it looks at ways to improve the access and egress from the road to St Anne's and Strandmill estate.
Cllr Judy Dunne (Lab) has called for a new set of traffic signals in the area to address the problem but that solution has effectively been ruled out by the council's operations department.
The department prepared a report on the issue which explains: 'It would be difficult to secure funding for signals at this location as the junction is close to an existing pedestrian crossing, the junction has adequate visibility when exiting and there are ramps in close proximity to the junction.'
However the council's traffic section will carry out a traffic count in the area and consider other alternative solutions, including the possibility of providing a yellow traffic box to aid access and egress onto Strand Road from the two estates.
