The plans were revealed in response to a motion at Balbriggan Town Council from Peadar O'Kelly (Lab), calling for the signalisation of the junction. The local authority told the town council: 'It is planned to install traffic signals at the junction of Market Green and Dublin Street during 2012. We are currently awaiting tenders for this work. The signals will incorporate pedestrian crossings on all sides.' Cllr O'Kelly welcomed the news as did Cllr Dermot Murray (FF) who did sound a note of caution on the proliferation of traffic lights in the centre of Balbriggan. While this particular location needed them, he suggested he was not sure that was the case for all the signals in the town.
