THE COUNCIL says it does not want to encourage long-term parking at the Pavilions Shopping Centre in Swords by dedicating spaces for staff at the centre.Cllr Tom Kelleher (Lab) asked for the provision of staff parking at the Pavilions to prevent staff at the centre parking in nearby residential areas. But the council revealed that the centre's planning permission never allowed for dedicated staff car parking and explained the logic behind that decision. Senior planner at Fingal County Council, Peter Byrne said that the council would not want to encourage long-term parking at the centre and would want to encourage staff to use public transport to get to work, where possible. Cllr Tom Kelleher (Lab) said he saw the logic of the planner's position but at the same time there were hundreds of employees at the centre that were not in a position to get public transport to Swords. Cllr Kelleher said that such a large development not having parking for staff struck him as a 'very odd situation' and he asked that the issue be revisited.
