Songs of Praise at St. George's church

Published 28/08/2012 | 14:58

LAST SUNDAY, Balbriggan was filled with the sound of 'Songs of Praise' in a special fundraising event at the grounds of St George's Church.

St Patrick's Brass and Reed Band provided the musical background for a host of local singers to join in singing hymns to raise money for the church's spire.

The collection on the day was in aid of the Save the Spire Fund. While the work on replacing the top of the spire was completed a year ago the fundraising to complete has still to go on. Parish Treasurer, Robert Cashell noted that they had nearly paid everything off and this latest event was a way of raising some funds and for people to enjoy some singing well known hymns. Mr Cashell would like to thank all those who have contributed to the fund over the last two years.

There has been great support from the local community and Fingal County Council also contributed a heritage grant.
