APPROXIMATELY €7,000 has been raised through a fundraiser in order to assist the work of a unit at Beaumont Hospital that deals with blood-related cancers.
The event was organised by Gina O'Dea from Malahide for the second year with all proceeds going towards Multiple Myeloma (The ColmanByrne Unit) at Beaumont Hospital. Gina has been receiving treatment for the condition, a cancer that starts in the plasma cells in bone marrow, for the past 15 years and decided to organise the fundraiser to raise money to assist the important work the unit carried out. The event was held at Malahide Rugby Club and approximately 160 people turned up to lend their support.
MC for the day was Irish actor Conor Mullen and he did a great job keeping the running order ticking along nicely. He also awarded the various spot prizes and conductedg the auction of a painting by Malahide artist, Val Denegan. So far, a whopping €7,000 has been raised and the money is still coming in – a fantastic achievement by Gina and all involved. Entertainment was supplied by classical guitarist Pat Coldrick and then for a change of tempo, the well known duo, Morgan Redmond and Peter Eades took to the stage. If anyone wants to make any further donations they can contact Gina at (086) 3811170.
