Sharon Groves, who gives an immense amount of her free time helping out at Fingallians GAA club, has been named as Club Person of the Year.

Sharon, who has three sons who are actively involved with the club, is part of the club's fundraising committee, having organised several events over the past year and a half from Octoberfest, a Race Day at Bellewstown Racecourse and plenty of raffles and cake sales in order to fund necessities such as new goal posts, nets and sporting equipment.

She is also part of a team with Deirdre Scully who run the club's shop on Saturday mornings, selling club gear and ordering in the gear and sports equipment, making sure all club members' orders are met.

'I nearly died when my name was called out,' Sharon told the Fingal Independent.

'I wasn't expecting it and am absolutely delighted to be honoured with the award.'

She said there isn't a night where she isn't involved with club activities between dropping her sons Ryan (19), Dylan (15) and Louie (12) to training and matches, helping out making tea and sandwiches and travelling to and from games.

It was also a family affair on the night as Ryan was named as Junior A Footballer of the Year.

'I was delighted that Ryan also won an award so there was a bit of celebrating in our household afterwards,' she said.

She said she will continue with her work for the club because she said 'I like to do my bit. If you stand around long enough you'll get a job!'

On the night of the awards, Nommy Howard from the 1956 team presented the Intermediate Championship winning medals.
