BALBRIGGAN COMMUNITY Policing Forum is gearing up for its annual Community Safety Week later in September where crime prevention and community safety will be top of the week's agenda.
Balbriggan Gardaí will be at the heart of events during the week and on Saturday, September 22, they will fling open the doors of the Garda station and invite all-comers to take a look behind the scenes at the local station. On the same day, Balbriggan Fire Brigade will have the same open-door treatment and will mount a demonstration of a car crash rescue at the Quay Street Car Park. Irish Coast Guards will be getting in on the act on the same day with a spectacular winchman display over the sea off the Skerries coast. On Friday, September 21, local youths will get a chance to kick at the heels of Balbriggan Gardaí without getting arrested in a late night football tournament hosted at Glebe North. Other events in the week which runs from September 17 to 22 include a launch event, community safety stalls at the farmers' market, the Garda Band will play on George's Square with a local school choir, a free tea party thrown by Balbriggan Town council and the distribution of 100 free glass vibration alarms sponsored by the town council. Balbriggan Chamber of Commerce and Balbriggan Gardaí will also get together to educate local businesses on crime prevention, particularly in a retail setting, on Thursday, September 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m at the Bracken Court Hotel.
