Person sought to take care of planter

THE COUNCIL is searching for someone to take care of a planter at the new pumping station in Donabate. Asked whether it was the local authority's intention to plant and maintain the planter by Cllr Gerry McGuire (Lab), the council claimed:

' The planter was put in at the request of the Tidy Towns Committee on the understanding that the County Council did not have the resources to take on the maintenance of such a scheme. 'Unfortunately, this year the Tidy towns Committee stepped down and replacements could not be found. Donabate did not enter the competition in 2012.' The local authority added: ' There were meetings between some members of the Tidy Towns and Community Council and a private landscape maintenance company that was interested in sponsoring the scheme but they did not seem to lead any where yet. 'Operations Division in Balbriggan/Swords will work with any community group or school that is willing to take on the maintenance of what could be an attractive feature in the village.'
