THERE IS only one remaining candidate in the bid to run the former Martin's Shop in Rush as a community facility. The council's community and sport division, through local advertising, invited interested parties to take on the responsibility for the day to day management and the sustainability of this facility. Three parties expressed an interest, two of whom failed to meet the short listing criteria of the council. The remaining candidate group has recently submitted a business plan to the community and sports division for further consideration. The council said it is hoped to meet with the group over the next fortnight to further explore some of the issues raised in the plan. The re-development of the ground floor of the building is substantially complete and should be handed over to the council in the coming weeks. The details of the property's future emerged in response to a question tabled to the council by Cllr Darragh Butler (FF).
