AN OVERHAUL of Malahide's out of date sewerage system has been on the council agenda for many years but the local authority says it will now be at least 2014 before work even begins on the long-awaited project.
Cllr Eoghan O'Brien (FF) described the wait for the project as a 'never-ending story' as he was told by the council's water services department that it hoped to start construction on the project in 2014. The water services department said: ' Fingal County Council water services project office is in the process of engaging a consultant engineering services provider in order to progress the scheme through the planning and design stage. 'The brief for consultants has been submitted to DECLG (Department for the Environment) for approval. Following appointment of consultants it is anticipated that the preliminary report and drainage area plan will be completed in 12 - 15 months. Cllr O'Brien was assured that the scheme had a high priority but could not progress without the next stages being approved by the Department of the Environment, which the council hopes to secure soon.
