Ned gets big surprise for 70th birthday
LITTLE did Edward Ned Monaghan realise when he walked into the Manor Inn pub that a surprise birthday party was being thrown in his honour.
Edward Ned thought he was going to his friend's son's graduation last Friday night and had wanted to attend his regular bingo session beforehand.
Intervening to prevent him attending bingo was his wife Eilish who had to coax him to attend the pub and his surprise 70th birthday party.
'He wanted to go to bingo first but everyone was waiting in the pub to surprise him for his birthday, so I couldn't let him go,' Eilish told the Fingal Independent.
'He got such a surprise that he staggered back in fright when he saw everyone was there to surprise him and celebrate his birthday with him,' she added.
The avid Liverpool supporter, who lives in St Cronan's in Brackenstown, used to play football with St Colmcille's GAA and has a big interest in horse racing.
Attending the party were his wife Eilish, daughters Denise and her partner Willard Peter Walker, Joanne and her partner Charlie Daly, Ashling and son Edward.
His sister Marie Carey was also in attendance along with Eilish's sister Ann and brother Michael and many other family members and friends.
'It was such a memorable night and we all had a great time,' said Eilish, adding that her late brother Pat, who passed away five weeks ago, was also remembered on the night, along with other family members who had passed away.
'We played Pat's favourite song "The Walk of Life" to remember him and the rest of our families who have passed away,' said Eilish.
'We would like to thank everyone who attended the night and to The Star for providing the food and Charlie Daly for the music,' she added.
