AN EXTENSIVE upgrade of the Naul Road into Balbriggan is being undertaken by contractors employed by the council who will carry out works to make the road safer, particularly close to the Millfield Shopping Centre.
The works incorporate the construction of footpath and cycle facilities on each side of a widened and reconstructed carriageway. The Harry Reynolds Road and Naul Road junction will also be modified to enhance traffic movements and pedestrian safety. A new pedestrian crossing will also be constructed to the east of the existing Millfield roundabout. The contract started recently with a scheduled construction period of six months but the council contractor has indicated that the works maybe completed prior to Christmas. The work will take place in three phases. Phases one and two are basically off-road works and will have little or no effect on traffic in the area, according to the council. Phase three will see the contractor reconstruct the Naul Road carriageway and will require minor traffic diversions. Pedestrian access between the shopping centre and Harry Reynolds Road will be maintained throughout the construction period.
