Malahide Lions serve up a cup of Java to raise funds for seniors

An annual coffee morning event to raise money for Malahide Senior Citizens' Christmas Party has been a roaring success for Malahide Lions Club who renewed the fundraiser recently.

The coffee morning was held at Malahide Tennis Club by volunteers from the Malahide Lions Club.

The event proved a huge success and raised a whopping €1,400 which will go a long way to funding the annual Christmas Party for the local senior citizens which can now go ahead to the planning stage with this funding in place.

A spokesperson for Malahide Lions Club said: 'Malahide Lawn Tennis Club very kindly made its beautiful clubhouse available to us. We were very well served  with  sponsorship and donations from local businesses.

'Once again 'Java' showed  tremendous generosity in supplying  all  the  coffee and  tea. We served, delicious buns, sandwiches, scones and pastries.

'Thanks to our sponsors  the raffle table was a focal point and there seemed to be almost one for everyone in the audience.'

The Lions Club spokesperson added: 'The €1,400 is ring-fenced to cover the cost of the  Malahide Senior Citizens' Christmas Party. 'This is an opportunity for us to say thank you to our seniors and to provide a welcome and much appreciated night out for them. 'Lions club members collect our guests and leave them safely home after a beautiful three-course meal and an evening of music, dancing and fun.

'Each year we welcome Santa who always remembers to bring a gift for each our guests.'
