Leading the charge at charity fun run

TWO BALBRIGGAN residents will be leading the Fingal charge at a family fun run in aid of the Irish Kidney Association/ Alessandra Pollicini and Chikoyo White are taking part in the Run for a Life event, which is taking place this Saturday at the Park West Business Park at noon.

Alessandra is an italian native and is married to a transplant recipient from Scotland. She has been living and working in Dublin for several years. Chikoyo is originally from Zambia and is home home haemodialysis and is married to race organiser, Colin White. The Irish Kidney Association has been in operation since 1978 and is dedicated to meeting the needs of renal patients, their families and carers. All members of the public, any generation what so and ever are asked to participate in a charity fundraiser in an effort to demonstrate their willingness and support of organ donation. The Run for a Life will take part on the same day as the European Day for Organ Donation and Transplantation its aims are to highlight the increasing number for people who need organ transplants all across Europe. The generous people who are signing up to take part in the Run for a Life will have the option of running, jogging or walking. It will be a fun filled family day out, for a cause that matters and participants can either compete in the 3.4km, 6.7km or the 10km event. There is also the option, for the first time this year, to enter a team of three in a 3 x 3.3km Team Relay Race. Race organiser Colin White said: ' The Irish Kidney Association is delighted to be hosting the Run for a Life again and we are looking to build on the community of runners, joggers and walkers from the previous years.' A large number of the participants in the European Transplant and Dialysis Games that underwent in Croatia in August will also be taking part in this Fun Run to make people raise awareness of organ donation. Registration (which includes the t-shirt and participant medal, as well as soup and Sandwich afterwards) will be €15 for adults and €10 per child and a Family of 2 adults and up to 4 children can register for €35.
