Home Heating help!

Published 11/12/2012 | 12:40

LOANS ARE being made available by Balbriggan Credit Union to help people with the continuing rise of fuel prices this winter.

Oil prices on average are up 18% since 2011 and look set to rise again this year. The trend that oil companies are reporting is an increase in the number of people buying even smaller amounts, with a huge spike in the demand for small drums of oil to keep people going and these come with a high price. The recent Third Irish League of Credit Unions ' What's Left' Tracker 2012 report highlights the fact that 8 in 10 consumers are worried that they won't be able to cope with the increasing energy costs this winter In order to address the issue, Balbriggan Credit Union has become the first credit union to offer this loan. Helping members, the credit union and local energy provider, Emo have launched 'Home Heat Assist'. Credit Union members who sign up to Home Heat Assist will be able to get a Home Heating Loan to fill their tank, and pay back the credit union. There are savings of up to €250 if you fill your tank as opposed to ordering in smaller quantities. Sean Staunton, Manager at Balbriggan Credit Union said: 'We are delighted to now be in a position to assist members who are facing increased prices in home heating oil.' The Emo-Community fund will see Emo invest in local community projects over the coming years that are approved by Balbriggan Credit Union and will be part of the overall Community investment plans by BCU. Home Heat Assist Application forms are available in Balbriggan Credit Union and online at www.emo.ie
