Entrepreneurs invited to over-50s Enterprise Day

FINGAL is set to host the country's first ever 'National 50+ Enterprise Day' next month.

Aimed at anyone aged 50 and over, the initiative may boost the number of 'senior entrepreneurs' in Ireland by increasing the number of new companies set up by people in that age group. To mark 'National 50+ Enterprise Day', the Fingal County Enterprise Board is hosting a day-long conference in Blanchardstown under the theme of 'Succeeding In Your Start-Up.' Building on the success of previous workshops for senior entrepreneurs, the Enterprise Board will be focussing on areas such as sourcing finance, effective management skills and business exit planning. Three Irish entrepreneurs who set up businesses while in their 50s will be sharing their experiences and insights on the day, including Jill Aston who set up an advertising bag stand company called 'Bagsitt' after getting the idea on holiday. Running from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Blanchardstown, the national conference on October 5 is one of 15 events taking place during Fingal Enterprise Week and it also coincides with EU SME Week 2012. Oisin Geoghegan, CEO of the Fingal County Enterprise Board, said: 'Research shows that people in their 50s and 60s are still far less likely to start a business, than those in their 20s and 30s, despite building up many years of experience and valuable contacts. By telling the stories of those who successfully started a business in their 50s and by highlighting the various supports on offer, we want to encourage more people in this age group to consider setting up their own company.' The subsidised cost to attend the 'National 50+ Enterprise Day' conference is €25, which includes all conference materials and a light lunch. Bookings can be made on-line through
