LOCAL Fine Gael representative, Bob Dowling, has welcomed the repairs of the railings on Donabate Bridge.
The bridge and surrounding area had recently become dilapidated and created a poor welcome to the town for both residents and visitors alike, according to Dowling.
He said: 'I have asked Fingal County Council to contact Irish Rail to repair their railings and the surrounding area to be secured.
Mr Dowling added: 'Despite Irish Rail repairing the bridge, as of today there is a broken fence which allows access to the railway embankment, a child could easily access this and it needs to be addressed by whatever agency is responsible for its upkeep and security.'.
On a separate note, he welcomed the provision of €600,000 from the Fingal Capital Programme to set up the new Donabate library.
Some €264,800 will be released in 2013 with the remaining €335,200 allocated to complete the project in 2014.
Mr Dowling said: 'This project is essential for the community infrastructure of the peninsula according to Dowling and with a new LAP plan for the area due to go into its public consultancy phase very soon such projects need to be ring fenced.'
