SOME €2,000 has been raised for Lusk Community Unit by a local woman who holds a number of fundraising events ever year as a mark of appreciation of the great care and service they provide.

For a number of years now, Dora Fitzpatrick from Skerries hosts boot sales to raise money for the unit, which looks after the elderly in the area.

Dora's sister Sile Seery said, 'This is Dora's way of showing her appreciation for the care and respite our mother receives in the Lusk Community Unit each year. Respite in Lusk is viewed as a holiday by our mother which means Dora can have a break that Mam is happy and content in Lusk Community Unit.

'Peace of mind is as important for a carer as it is for the person being cared for which is why Lusk is marvellous for both Dora and our mother.'

This year, Dora has once again hit her target of €2,000.

'With the recession it is getting more difficult to raise money but Dora has great help from Marion Kinsella in Lusk.

Also, John and Alan in Balbriggan Market are wonderful as well as they are very generous in their support over the last number of years.

'We would like to thank all the people who supported us in the last twelve months and hope they will continue into the future,' Sile said.
