Difficulties hindering the upgrade of roads

THE council has blamed a lack of funding and the difficulties acquiring privately-owned land for a lack of progress on upgrading the Park Road and Palmer Road areas of Rush.
Cllr. Barry Martin called for the urgent upgrade of the area which he said was 'hazardous' and served a significant population, including local schoolchildren.
Apart from the need to negotiate with privately landowners in the area over a new scheme, the council said that the 'provision of a comprehensive proposal for the entire upgrade of Palmer Road would require a comprehensive road planning scheme and would have to be costed accordingly with a dedicated funding source'.
'Currently, there is no road scheme and no funding set aside for such a scheme at this time,' said the council report. 'The matter of specific improvement work along sections of Palmer Road, can however be addressed on a case-by-case basis.'
