Delay on open space

Published 01/01/2013 | 11:22

RESIDENTS OF Hampton Cove in Balbriggan will have to wait until the new year to find out if their open space will receive more regular cutting from the council.

Cllr Ciaran Byrne (Lab) has asked the local authority for assurances that the grassed areas of the estate will be cut at least seven times per year. But the council said the new regime of cutting on the estate will depend on the results of public consultation on a new county wide open space strategy. The local authority explained: 'It is envisaged that the draft open space strategy will be available for public consultation in the New Year and should be brought to the Council prior to the grass cutting season of 2013. 'Once adopted, the open space at Hampton Cove will be maintained according to the objectives of the strategy.'
