LOCAL COUNCILLORS have agreed to put a proposal to extinguish a right of way on Westbrook Avenue in Balbriggan before a meeting of the full council. The proposal has been out for public consultation and returned to the Balbriggan/Swords Area Committee last week where it was agreed that it should be put before the next meeting of the full council for approval. Local residents have voted overwhelmingly in support of the move with a petition with 123 signatures. Only one resident from nearby Chieftan's Crescent has publicly objected to the extinguishment of the right of way. The traffic section of the council expressed some reservations about the closure saying it would 'adveresely affect the connectivity of the footpath network in the area'. The traffic section also said: 'It should also be noted that the Naul Road Upgrade is currently in progress upgrading the footpaths and providing cycleways along this stretch of road which will be of great benefit to the local community.' But despite these reservations, local councillors on the area committee decided to let the proposal go forward to the full council for approval in accordance with the wishes of local residents.
