Balbriggan rewards brightest and best parade participants
WHEN the marching and the drumming of the annual Balbriggan St Patrick's Day Parade was done, it was time to dole out the prizes for those who went the extra mile for the day's celebrations.
For the last time before Balbriggan Town Council is consigned to the history books in May, it was the job of the Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Peadar O'Kelly, to give out the prizes.
Winning the National Irish Bank Cup for the Best Marching Group in Uniform was the Realt Na Mara Guides and Brigíns while the Best Marching Group not in Uniform went to Remember Us, who took home a trophy sponsored by Hamilton Engineering.
The Best Community Group was Bracken Educate Together, who took the award sponsored by Allied Irish Bank.
Balbriggan Chamber of Commerce sponsored the prize for the Best Sporting Group and that honour went to Balbriggan RFC.
The Best Commercial Entry award, sponsored by the Bank of Ireland, went to Apache Pizza.
Finally, the Seamus Ennis Centre put up the prize for the best shop front along the parade route, which went to Salon 27 this year.
Hearty congratulations to all the winners and indeed, all the participants and organisers of another wonderful St. Patrick's Day parade in Balbriggan.
