Bag-pack raises €6,300 for Aware
A RECENT Christmas bag pack fundraiser organised by the enthusiastic team at Tesco Balbriggan has raised €6,300 for Aware, Tesco's Charity of the year.
With the help of volunteers from another local charity, Tesco set up bag packing stations at all their checkouts for four days in the lead up to Christmas. Donation buckets were set up and thanks to the support of the local community €12,600 was raised in total and split between the two charities.
Speaking about the recent fundraiser, Lisa McEvoy, Charity of the Year Champion, Tesco Balbriggan, commented: 'We would like to thank everyone from the local area for their support of our recent Christmas bag pack. We were delighted to be able to raise €6,300 for Aware, our Charity of the Year, bringing the total our store has raised to date for the charity to an impressive €27,000.'
Aware is the national organisation providing information, support and education around depression, a condition which affects more than 450,000 people in Ireland (one in ten) at any one time.
Funds raised are benefitting Aware's Life Skills programme which is delivered over the course of six weeks.
The programme is focused on teaching participants how to manage feelings of stress, worry or anxiety and helps them learn simple and practical skills to cope with life's challenges.
In the first year of the partnership, funds raised allowed Aware to deliver its free secondary schools programme, Beat the Blues, to over 40,400 students in 569 schools across the country.
The charity was chosen as the Tesco Charity of the Year for 2012 and 2013. Since its inception in 2001, the Tesco Charity of the Year Programme has donated over €10 million to 8 Irish charities.
