FACES WERE painted, castles bounced and magic tricks were performed all to the delight of children from Applewood and beyond as the local community centre held its first ever Family Fun Day.
Applewood Community Centre is only months old but has already woven itself into the fabric of the local community and the big attendance at the fun day was proof positive of the important space the new centre now occupies in this part of Swords.
Amid the obligatory face painting and bouncy castles, there was a whole host of entertainment and fun provided by local groups who came to add music, dance and not a little colour to the occasion. The good people at Applewood Community Centre have publicly thanked all the groups involved in making the day such a roaring success. Among the participating community and performance groups livening up the Family Fun Day were the Swords Area Theatre School, Dancefit Zumba, Caden Dance Academy, Tin a Mation, Swords Judo Club, Dance Hall Academy and the Fingal Gospel Choir.
The management team at the centre also thanked Fingal County Council for its continued support for the new community facility. Providing the background music to all the mirth and magic was DJ for the day, Andy Byrne who did a great job by all accounts. There was even a petting zoo at the centre for the day which proved hugely popular among the younger members of the local community. The day was brilliantly organised and well attended and huge thanks goes out to all who came along and made this first of many Family Fun Days such a day to remember.
The Family Fun Day was the perfect way to draw the curtains on a successful first summer season for the facility. Now the management team are gearing up for a busy Autumn with the return of many popular classes at the Applewood Community Centre and you can find out more about the programme of events at the centre on its website at www.applewoodcc.ie
