Teachers complete science course
SEVERAL primary school teachers from the Fingal area were selected to participate in a science course aimed to ignite passion in the subject.
Organised by the Royal College of Surgeons, the five-day 'Come to Your Senses 2014' science course enables the teachers to pass on the passion for science onto their students.
Fiona O'Hara and Ciara Kelleher of Old Borough National School in Swords and Lorraine O'Neill of St Catherine's National School in Rush were among the participants of the 'Come to Your Senses 2014' programme.
The course used the theme of the human senses to enable primary school teachers to develop their interest and enthusiasm for teaching science with direct relevance to primary science curriculum for Social Environment and Science Eduaction (SESE).
The programme puts an emphasis on learning through doing and provides teachers with alternative, hands-on and fun ways of teaching science to children, without the need for expensive materials or equipment.
Dr Jacqueline Daly, Director of the Primary Science Initiative, RCSI said 'As well as providing an important opportunity for teachers to network and share experiences with their peers, the 'Come to Your Senses' course empowers teachers to bring new techniques back to their own school and pass these valuable skills on to their colleagues.'
