SKERRIES Rugby Club is inviting locals to start slimming for charity in January as it puts a group together to shed those Christmas pounds and support local charity, Remember Us.
Modelled on the 'Operation Transformation' event run on RTE, volunteers for the fundraiser will have weekly session with mentors, supports and sponsors and their progress can be followed online.
Wellfit Gym will be providing the support and mentoring and have offered free classes and advise to those who are chosen.
SuperValu Skerries will also be sponsoring the project and providing space for a 'Challanger's Notice Board'. It's hoped also that the town will get behind the event with organised Sunday morning walks etc.
Those interested in taking part will need to complete the form and return it to Skerries Rugby Club by 6pm on Monday, January 4.
All applicants will need to be in a position to raise €200 each by the start date of mid-January. No personal weight will be published anywhere. This will all be very private.
The club will publish the lbs and kilos lost and percentage weight lost by each team as a whole unit on a weekly basis. The winning team will be the team with the highest percentage weight loss over the duration of the challenge.
Start getting people to pledge now. Once th application date has closed, all applications will be assessed and a judging panel will choose 20 people to take part.
These 20 people will be notified in advance of the Kick Off/Launch date at which they will be unveiled.
Five teams of four will be chosen and from there on it's a race against the clock.
Even if you aren't successful as an applicant, there's still opportunity to get involved. There will be weekly sessions in the Rugby Club to help and assist. You can support and pledge to someone who did get chosen and join in the many activities that will be happening around the main event i.e. Skerries Weight Loss Challenge.
