Public art programme returns to Portrane

Fingal County Council's Creative Ireland programme is continuing with the return of 'Resort Revelations' public art programme which will run for 10 days this month.

Co-ordinated by Fingal's Arts Office, the programme was launched at the weekend by Mayor of Fingal Cllr Mary McCamley and Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, Paul Reid, in Lynders Mobile Home Park Portrane.

Resort Revelations III, as part of Resort Residency and in partnership with the Bleeding Pig Cultural Festival, will see the return of previous Resort Residency artists Deirdre O'Mahony, Vanessa Daws, Catherine Barragry and Alan James Burn in an exciting 10-day programme of public art events.

Alan James Burn's psycho-acoustic sound performance Entirely hollow aside from the dark / Smuggler's Cave, originally commissioned through the Resort Revelations II 2016 Programme and later awarded the Arts Council's Touring Award, will return to its original location of Tower Bay Beach, Portrane, from September 10 -13.

The Perishable Picnic by artist Deirdre O'Mahony will celebrate the history of fruit growing in North County Dublin.

A giant ceramic, strawberry jam pot made by artist Garnet McCulloch will be the centrepiece for a picnic of strawberry foods, drinks, and conversation at Lynder's Mobile Home Park on September 9.

Caroline Cowley, Fingal County Council's Public Art Co-ordinator, said: 'Resort Residency, our award winning residency partnership with Lynders Mobile Home Park, is a key location for artists from which to create new work inspired by the rich social, cultural, historical and geographical thematic of the area.

'We are delighted to be presenting this year's art projects as part of the Bleeding Pig Festival and to also welcome four new artists to the Resort Residency - Bennie Reilly, Marie Farrington, Ciaran Murphy and artist collective Difference Engine.'

Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, Paul Reid, said: 'Public Art is embedded in the very fabric of Fingal and this programme, now in its third year, is evidence of the great artistic talent and creativity in our county.

'I look forward to attending the launch and the many public art events that form this engaging programme,'
