Karen Bowers (33) is one of six contestants taking part in a six-week series 'Get off the Couch' for Setanta TV which starts on Thursday, October 24th at 10pm.

Karen, who runs her own At Home Pampering business, took up the challenge as she felt like many young mothers she had lost her own fitness, running her business and her family and had never been very outdoors orientated.

But, in the series, Karen turns her life around and takes up the challenge to do a triathlon, climb Ireland's highest mountain and swim Lough Sheelin.

Karen said she had her first child at the age of 19 and from then on had been a little bit overweight.

'It progressed as the years went on,' Karen said.

'I suppose my self-confidence and self-esteem would have suffered a little bit in the past three to four years,' she added.

Karen said that while putting her business in place and looking after her children, she had let herself slide.

'I wanted to change all that,' she explained. 'Now, I've changed my thoughts with regards to my weight and I'm in a place now to get myself positive and get the weight gone for good.'

She said the series has made her look forward to trying out new things outside her comfort zone.

'One of the things I have said is that I want to do things for me and I am looking forward to the challenges – whether I do them all or not is another thing!'
