Kilmore stride to title

PREMIER CHAMPIONS Kilmore against a Division 3 side might have looked a mismatch on paper in the Under-10 Cup final in Bunclody on Saturday last but, despite St. Leonards going behind to an early Sophie Boxwell goal, they battled hard for the remainder of the game and put in a very creditable display.
Both sides had some excellent players on display and it was probably the youthfulness of the saints that told against them as the game wore on. Prolific scorer Kira Bates-crosbie made it 2-0 just before halftime and effectively ended any chance of St. Leonards getting back into the game, although they continued to show great character throughout the second-half.
Another goal each from Sophie Boxwell and Kira Bates-crosbie plus one from Amy Mcdonald wrapped up the double for Kilmore before referee Nikki Dunphy brought the game to an end.
Both sides can be very proud of their performances in front of a very sizeable crowd. St. Leonards defender Eimear Gabbett picked up a well-deserved player of the match award at the end of a long day of finals.
