Inconsistent Youths are well beaten in Athlone

Athlone Town 4, Wexford Youths 0: Wexford Youths' inconsistency came back to haunt them once again as they were handed a four-goal drubbing by Athlone Town in this Division 1 clash in Athlone on Friday night last.

Having gained an impressive 3-0 victory over Cobh Ramblers seven days earlier, Wexford Youths failed to put victories back-to-back.

After 19 minutes Athlone took the lead when Gorman headed home their first goal, and a five-minute spell close to the interval really decided the destination of the points. On 40 minutes Sweeney swept a Coughlan cross to the net, while right on the break Gorman made it 3-0 from close range.

There was little to boost Wexford Youths as their struggle continued through the second half although they did manage to confine the home side to one more goal from Coughlan in the 64th minute

Wexford Youths: Graham Doyle, Craig McCabe, James Dermody, Gary Delaney, James Carr, Thomas Croke, Brian Nolan, Shane Nolan, Eric Molloy (Ian Goulding), Daryl Powe (Glen Hawe), Dean Broaders.
