THE ENTIRE parish was invited to the wedding of the year in Askamore Hall recently, as blushing bride Barb Dwyer and lifelong bachelor Bob Hayturner were wed in a glittering showbiz ceremony.

More than 200 locals turned out to witness the special ceremony which was conducted by Fr. Bishop, aka Fergus Kinsella. Witnesses said that the bride played by Ian Doyle almost had to carry her father up the aisle as he was slightly the worse for wear before the ceremony began, and during the speeches afterwards, the best man let slip a few stories he shouldn't have about the groom played by Mick Doran.

In all, there was a cast and crew of 16 involved in the production, which included the obligatory pregnant objector, the scorned wife, and a disappointed ex-fiancé. After the first dance to 'Je t'aime', it was time for all of the wedding guests to let their hair down and dance the night away. The Mock Wedding was organised as a fundraiser for Askamore Community Council, and a massive thank you was sent to all who helped make it a huge success, especially the cast, crew, and production team.

The event was part of Féile Week in Askamore which began with the first birthday party of Le Chéile Park during which a free library in the park was launched.

The week also included Table Quizzes, the showing of a film in the hall, and a car treasure hunt.
