Recycling bins gone

THE RECYCLING bins for bottles and cans have gone from Abbey Square, to the regret of some people who contacted Cllr Pat Cody. However, the bins were generating too much litter, according to town manager Tony Larkin who defended the decision to remove them at the February meeting of Enniscorthy Town council.
Cllr Cody reported that some elderly people with no car to drive to the new bring centre at Old Dublin Road found the loss the facility near to Caulfield's Supervalu an inconvenience. They told the Labour man how they used to take a walk to the square to dispose of their recyclables.
The manager sympathised but insisted that the scale of dumping around the bins was ridiculous, particularly in such a prominent location. Keeping the place clean took time and money on a scale that could not be justified after the centre was opened at the Old Dublin Road late last year.
