'Ignoring the rules'

RAFTER STREET may be closed to vehicles at night if drivers continue to break the oneway system. Town manager Tony Larkin complained that some people were 'doing their living best to ignore all the rules'.
At present, the street is open to vehicles approaching from Market Square from 5 p.m. to 10 a.m. each day. However, the manager was concerned that motorists were travelling both ways along Rafter Street when it is not a pedestrian-only zone.
The route is one-way and clearly marked as such with a new sign at the top of Church Street. He noted that the street was left open at night to allow taxis pick up passengers.
He mused that people should be capable of walking to Court Street for their lift and warned that, if abuses continue, then the bollards may be put in place.
