JUDGE Gerard Haughton said he didn't believe defendant Johanna Farrell, or her mother, when they denied at Gorey District Court last week that the defendant drove without insurance after an encounter with a Garda.
Johnanna Farrell, nee Byrne, of 32 Etchingham Heights, Riverchapel, denied driving without insurance, and driving while disqualified at Tesco, Courtown Road, Gorey, on November 14 last year.
Garda Hayes said he saw her drive out of the Tesco car park onto the public road, after he finished speaking to her about another matter. She claimed she waited on her mother to return to the car, who then drove. The Garda said he believed she drove off to collect her mother from outside Gorey Community School.
However, after evidence by the defendant and her mother, Judge Haughton said 'somebody is telling lies, and I'm certain it's not Garda Hayes.'
He fined her €200 for driving while disqualified, and €500 for driving without insurance. He also disqualified her from driving for four years.
