Nightmare for family

Esther Hayden

A Ferns family is going through a nightmare as they struggle to get help for two brothers who both have a life-threatening condition.

Three-year-old Cathal and one-year-old Ciaran Martin, the grandchildren of Miley and Mary Jordan from Carnew Road in Ferns, both have a condition called leukodystrophy.

Their mother, Lynda Martin, is now living in Rathnew, Co. Wicklow, with husband Les and their three children, Cathal, Ciaran and Holly.

Lynda and Les are currently in Milan, Italy, where little Ciaran is receiving urgent lifesaving treatment, which is costing €250,000. In a bid to help raise the money, a fundraising committee has been established in Ferns by the local community and there will be a massive fundraising concert in the Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey, on Easter Sunday night.
