Mucky fun at Beach Bog Run
THE THIRD annual Castletown Beach Bog Run last Saturday offered lots of muck, sand and water for the 250 or so adventure runners who turned out for the event.
The were presented with the choice of a 6 km course or a 10 km course, incorporating many natural obstacles, and some challenging manmade hurdles as well, including a 6 ft. wooden wall, and a rope swing across a river.
The starting gun was fired by former Ireland International Shane Byrne, who couldn't take part this year due to injury, but the organisers were still delighted to have him there on the day. Also taking part were members of a hen party, who came up from Wexford in fancy dress, and swapping the glamour of the dance floor for mucky runners was Hayley Murphy who won the recent Castletown v Kilanerin Strictly Come Dancing final in Gorey.
The event was organised to raise funds for underage development at Castletown Liam Mellows GAA Club, and the organisers were delighted with so much support from spectators, and the volunteers, stewards, and all who provided refreshments in the clubhouse afterwards. Thanks were also sent to all who took part, sponsors The Golden Anchor, and Cullen's Fruit and Veg, and the landowners.
The results were as follows: Men's 6 km: 1, Stephen Flavin; 2, Trevor Foley; 3, Cathal Hayes.
Men's 10 km: 1, Paul Gibbons; 2, Bernard Fortune; 3, Noel Kennedy.
Women's 6 km: 1, Chloe Kenny; 2, Karen Holmes; 3, Irene Grant.
Women's 10 km: 1, Ger Kelly; 2, Sinead O'Halloran.
