Two local Gorey schools are hitting all the right notes having been shortlisted as finalists in the third Walton's Music for Schools competition. Bunscoil Loreto and Gaelscoil Moshíológ were both named among the six finalists in the prestigious competition last week.

The music group from Bunscoil Loreto consists of the school orchestra with some of the school traditional band and members of the school choir. All three musical groups combine harmoniously to perform 'Pachelbel's Friends' under the baton of teacher Niall Quillinan. The students range from first class students to sixth class students.

Gaelscoil Moshiolog's entry is 'Cuisle Moshiolog' which is performed by the 63 strong Ceoltori Oga Gaelscoil Moshiolog. The students taking part in the performance range in age from Junior Infants to Sixth Class students.

Both entries can be viewed at Walton's Music for Schools Competition YouTube channel or on www.waltons.ie.

The annual Walton's Music for Schools Competition is a national competition and celebration of music in Irish schools. The competition awards a total of €10,000 worth of vouchers for musical instruments and is divided among six winning primary and post-primary schools, including two first prizes of €3,000. Each of the finalists will perform in the National Concert Hall on May 12.
