Gorey mourns loss of Mona O'brien

THE PEOPLE of Gorey were saddened to learn of the passing of Mona O'Brien, née Sheridan, of Hillview Drive, who passed away on December 21 following an eighteen month battle with cancer. She was just 56.

Mona was the youngest of eight children of the late Tom and Mar Sheridan of Clonattin Road, Gorey. She started work at Arklow Pottery, and then went to Luton where she found work in the Vauxhall motor factory.

She later came back to Gorey and worked in Walsh Mushrooms for a period, but missed England and then went back to Luton. She eventually came back home and settled into 2 Hillview Drive with her son Gavin.

Her Funeral Mass took place at St. Michael's Church, Gorey, on December 23, and she was laid to rest afterwards in St. Michael's Cemetery.

Predeceased by her sister Maudie Eldred, Mona will be sadly missed by her loving son Gavin; brothers Art, Derry, Nicko and Pat; sisters Betty Kennedy and Margo O'Brien; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.
