Going the extra mile

A COLOURFUL cast of characters took to Duncannon beach on New Year's Day for the annual Goal Mile walk and run.

Over 100 people turned up for the walk despite the wet conditions, and approximately €500 was raised for Goal, the international humanitarian agency dedicated to alleviating the suffering of the poorest of the poor.

People came dressed as snowmen, leprechauns, Santa, Superman and Fr Trendy, while a boy in his early teens led the walkers and runners from the off.

One of the organisers said: 'People got into the spirit of it and everyone did the mile, either by running it or by walking it, some with their dogs. It's all about getting out into the fresh air on New Year's Day and getting a break from the excess.'

People donated generously to people collecting for Goal on the day.
